We created and sent this Christmas card to our family and a few close friends in December. At first, the reader might expect a play on the word Noel, but since Susan and I are interested in literacy, the inside reveals a different idea.
Susan realized that our visual concept of a letter "at work" in words could be adapted to an activity for beginning readers. We used as many Dolch words as we could and made our pages interactive.
Students can search for a given letter in one or two groups of words, a collection of short sentences, and a select group of pre-primer, primer and sight words for young readers. Optionally, they can count the number of times the letter appears in the sets of words.
Give Missing Letter/Busy Letter a try with your child or your students.
